Nathaniel Currier (1813 - 1888).summons humankind's great temptations -- "backbiting," "extortion," "cursing," "murder," etc. -- in this allegory of transgressions. Featured is the devil watering the evil tree while a skeleton threatens the trunk with an axe. Although undated; most museums posit 1845 as date of publication. A delightful image of Currier's tree of sins, presented here in a handsome frame.
