Provenance: Jack Downing, "renowned spymaster" (per Washington Post obituary) and a refined sinophile who served as CIA Chief of Station in both Beijing and Moscow. An alumnus of the HIll School, Downing appears in the 1958 reunion handbook (#27 on the Class of 1958 list, p. v).
